Course 12 outline - Costing Advice Services
SRA CPD Introductory/Intermediate level (4.5 CPD hours)
Why cost your services? Do you know how much each piece of generalist advice costs? Do you know how much each hour of your solicitor’s time costs? Do you know how much each volunteer costs?
This NEW course will address these and other equally important questions that you need to be able to answer
Advice agencies are complex organisations providing a range of services, supported by a range of funders. It is important that agencies learn to allocate overhead expenditure properly, in order to understand the true cost of each service. This knowledge can help persuade funders to properly fund a service. It is also important for organisational planning to know which services make a surplus and which make a loss
This course will:
- Introduce participants to the language of costing
- Outline developments in relation to "Full Cost Recovery"
- Introduce a method for costing each service provided by an organisation
- Give participants an opportunity to apply this method to a case example
- Facilitate discussion between participants about the factors that influence costs
- Introduce participants to resources on costing services
This course is aimed at managers, finance workers, trustees in advice agencies - those who are responsible for securing funding and/or managing contracts for the delivery of advice and/or other services
This course does not assume any financial expertise
