Workforce Development and Training
Who's doing it?
The workstream is co-ordinated by Advice UK, but also involves the Law Centres Federation, Citizens Advice and Youth Access as funded service providers.
Why was this workstream developed?
This Workstream was developed in response to the sector identifying that it needs to be in a better position to attract and retain staff through providing appropriate and sustainable training, a clear qualifications framework and better managerial support.
What is its aim?
The aim of the workstream is to develop a co-ordinated approach to workforce development and training.
What are the expected outcomes of the workstream?
- A sector more able to attract and retain staff and volunteers.
- Increased awareness and understanding of workforce development needs
- A workforce that has the infrastructure for better training and support to provide a high quality service
- Improved access to appropriate, sustainable training and learning support
- A greater number of people who are accredited to train and support the learning of those working in the sector
- A Workforce Development and training website/portal for all provision
- A programme of manager training
- 800 advisors across the sector trained
What has it achieved so far?
- Development of a central register of trainers which is featured on networks websites
- Disclosure training delivered to 76 advisers who are either offenders or work with offenders
- Career sessions delivered to 38 students on what they can expect from a career in the advice sector
- 102 advisers trained under the Skills and Knowledge programme on topics including Housing and Homelessness, Learning to Advise and Employment Law
- Programme of Youth training developed and rolled out
- LCF delivering a programme of training developed and rolled out
What more will be achieved before the end of the project?
- Total of 800 advisers will be trained by the end of the project including 200 new entrants
- Extension of national programme of skills and knowledge training to include sessions on commissioning, co-ordinating volunteers and mentoring
- Creation of website
- Resources and templates developed for managers on competency assessment and workforce development awareness
- Programme of manager training delivered consisting of 28 sessions on competency assessment and workforce development resources
