Course 7 outline - Audit Proof 2010: the next steps

SRA CPD Intermediate/Advanced level (4.5 CPD hours)

Worried that the Legal Services Commission (LSC) will visit you in 2010? Do you know why it might and what to do to prepare? Do you understand the full range of formal and informal ‘audits’ you may be subjected to and all the consequences?

This FULLY UPDATED course builds on its 2009 predecessor by bringing you up-to-date with ongoing developments in the auditing of Civil Contract holders. It also incorporates the new outsourced Specialist Quality Mark Control Audits that will commence late 2010

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Appreciate the scrutiny you are currently being subjected to
  • Identify all the types of formal, and more informal visits, your organisation may experience and why they occur
  • Appreciate their consequences and how you might seek to avoid or to prepare for them
  • Take away check-list type practical tools to undertake your own internal audit(s), helping you identify where you might need to take remedial action
  • Understand how to appeal audit decisions, including good practice in drafting an appeal to a Regional Director and Independent Costs Assessor
  • Identify common problem areas that have led to bad ratings at audits for other organisations

This course is aimed at anyone with an interest in presenting their organisation in its best light should it be audited/visited or when put under any other form of scrutiny by the LSC. Participants are likely to be management or category supervisor level, or those with responsibility for compliance generally eg office managers. It covers all the types of formal audit and also the more informal visits which may occur eg KPI visits and the various validation exercises. This course is suitable for participants who attended the earlier 2009 version
